How can I become a network administrator?

I have a B.A., and I’ve been MCSE (Microsoft Certified System Engineer) certified since 2001. I was working as an office clerk, but I am passionate about network administration and would like to gain some experience in this field. I am now 44 years old. What is the best way to become a network administrator?

CCNA is a must, but you should really look to get at least CCNP. You should also consider CompTIA certifications. Network+ and Security+ are crucial as well.
